The exhibition titled Artists’ Colony 100 opened at the MűvészMalom over the weekend. At the opening, director Anna Borbély-Tardy welcomed the guests and emphasized that Szentendre would not be the same city without the artists’ colony. “The history of the artists’ colony community is intertwined with that of the city, and now we have the opportunity to tell this incredible 100-year story in this exhibition.”
Zsolt Fülöp, the mayor of Szentendre, briefly spoke about the artists’ colony building and emphasized the importance of contemporary aspects. The artists’ colony, which is still operating today, plays an important role in the history of the city, as the works and presence of the artists working there fill Szentendre with life.
The exhibition was opened by artist József Gaál, who highlighted, among other things, that the artists working in the artist colony learned and were inspired by each other, thus creating an active creative community that fundamentally defined the Szentendre spirit and painting style.
The musical accompaniment was provided by Márton Méhes, who played the handpan instrument.
The curators of the exhibition: Emőke Bodonyi, György Szücs, Károly Tóth, Andrea Verba
The exhibition can be visited at MűvészetMalom until October 25, 2026.
