The historical material, which includes more than 40,000 artifacts, consists of three units: a collection of documents, objects and photographs. The collection of documents consists of documents, maps, posters, postcards, books and diaries. In 1974, a large number of posters were acquired from the Hungarian Labor Movement Museum. The most precious pieces of the collection are the city’s German-language patent book from the time of Maria Theresa, and the postcard albums of Jenő Dumtsa, the city’s first mayor.

The collection of objects includes souvenirs, religious objects, decorative objects, household utensils, tableware, furniture, the equipment of a grocery store between the two world wars, tools from a confectionery workshop and everyday objects. The collection, which includes more than 8,000 items, is also enriched by the legendary file chest of Rab Ráby. Another jewel of the collection is an ornately crafted bone-handled jatagan, which may have been made in a Balkan workshop and perhaps came to the city through the Rác intermediary trade. The legacy of Ferenc Stéger, the famous opera singer from Szentendre, is also part of the historical collection.

The photo collection is the most recent unit of the historical material, opened in 2010, after the museum acquired the photographs of the first mayor of Szentendre after World War II. Dr. Ferenc Dezsőfi’s photographs were taken using various techniques: negative glass plates using the collodion wet process, positive paper images or negative images made of celluloid.
