Nino and Nina When They Looked Back for the Last Time
Éva Magyarósi is a contemporary visual artist whose name rings bells in the international art scene and in the world of cinema, and who is particularly sensitive to social issues. Her works represent a new, experimental fusion of media art, classical drawing and painting. She is also known for collage films, photographs, public space installations and sets for theatre and film. Using pencil drawings and photographs, she makes animations and storyboards with complex symbolism and narratives of her own invention.
Together, the visionary works tell a story of a hidden world of womanhood and motherhood, all set on a planet Earth in ecological and social crisis. The filmic miniatures and drawn epics, which are accompanied by atmospheric sound effects, are transformed into stories by characters born from her own myth-making imagination and her drawings of her children. The animated shorts, which have background music, are presented in the company of the original works on paper they are based on, in installations that extend into space and tell stories. As visitors immerse themselves in the flow of images swirling in space, the hidden dimensions of the artist’s special way of thinking also become revealed. Sensitive renderings of dreams, internal monologues and states of mind, these lyrical visual worlds fuse into a magical whole that envelops the viewer.
