2026. 04. 16. - 2026. 11. 29. Helyszín: Vajda Múzeum Elmegyek a kiállításra

This new, thematic exhibition of the Vajda Museum takes a broader perspective and considers the influence of Vajda’s art and ethos on the second half of the 20th century through the praxes of diverse (neo-) avant-garde, postmodern and contemporary artists. As it offers a chronological overview of Vajda’s work, the exhibition introduces contemporary artists, one in each room, whose outlook and thinking draw on Vajda’s artistic heritage.

The exhibiting artists are Lajos Vajda, El Kazovszkij, Péter Kovács, Barbara Nagy and Ákos Birkás.

Who Was Lajos Vajda?

Lajos Vajda (1908–1941) was an artist whose work evolved from Constructivism to Surrealism, culminating in his unique “transparent drawings” and later, deeply personal abstract compositions. His art reflects not only his own tragic fate but also the turmoil of his historical era. Vajda’s name is inseparably linked to Szentendre—his drawings interweave the architectural motifs of the town with symbolic representations of his own life’s journey
