On May 9, we celebrate Europe Day, also known as Schuman Day, and as we mentioned earlier this month, Szentendre has been part of the EHL – European Heritage Label network for many years now. Since its establishment, the EHL network has expanded to 80 sites across 23 European countries, reflecting both the diversity of Europe’s history and the unity of its values.
This year, in 2026, 13 new sites received the European Heritage Label, and we are delighted to see this cultural network continuously growing with new locations of outstanding historical significance. In today’s post, we would like to celebrate these 13 newly awarded sites.
And what kinds of places are these?
From peace negotiation venues and museums to archaeological sites and places that transformed our understanding of human origins; from centers of learning and music to landscapes shaped by industry and nature, these heritage sites represent a remarkable diversity of stories and histories.
These places are important because each one tells a different story, yet together they form a shared European narrative.
