New exhibition: NESTArt

2026. 07. 22.

The exhibition for NESTArt—the Szentendre Summer Artist Hub—opened this weekend, showcasing the work of ten young creators to the public. At the opening, Director Anna Borbély-Tardy welcomed the guests and emphasized the museum’s strong commitment to fostering and supporting young generations of artists. She highlighted NESTArt as one of the institution’s most exciting initiatives, now taking place for the second time.

Visual artist Barbara Nagy also spoke at the opening; she had served as a mentor, guiding the young creators through their work processes during the two-week residency. This year’s NESTArt focused on the Old Artists’ Colony and its community. Throughout the program, participants engaged with the colony’s artists and their bodies of work, subsequently reflecting on their chosen pieces and artists through their own unique perspectives. Barbara emphasized that a key question addressed by NESTArt was how the Szentendre art community influences the thinking and work of young creators arriving from outside the town.

Curator Zsuzsa Iberhalt also delivered a speech at the opening, highlighting that the exhibition explores what it means for an emerging artist to connect with Szentendre. In her view, one of the program’s most important takeaways is that tradition is not a closed legacy to be preserved in an unaltered state, but rather a living entity that acquires new meanings in the hands of new generations. The exhibition is a record of this creative dialogue and process.

The exhibition by NESTArt – Szentendre Summer Artist Base is open to the public free of charge until August 30 in the lower exhibition hall of the Vajda Museum. We look forward to welcoming you!
