Literary Collection
Literary scientific work, the collection of literary history data and materials in the museum have traditionally been linked to library activities, and this is how the still very important publication entitled Writers, Poets in Szentendrén was born with the work of museum librarian Edit G. Sin (and Erika Pethő Németh). The opening towards the public is also indicated by the exhibitions that appeared in the mid-2000s, thematizing the literary traditions and memorial sites of the region.
Literary exhibitions, programs, and with them a more pronounced literary presence have been characteristic since 2015. Our goal is to present exhibitions, programs and professional conferences that research and present the possibilities of connecting visuality and literature, with the intention of reflecting on the traditions of fine arts (also). At the same time, it is important to continuously rewrite cultural memory by including authors and literary traditions that are connected to the region and the city.
The literary history database and collection are growing during the research conducted in connection with the exhibitions, so we have received about one and a half hundred documents of Zsuzsa Szőnyi’s literary correspondence, courtesy of Endre Mányoki, the editorial correspondence of the magazine Mozgó Világ and related photographs, mostly from the period between 1980 and 1983, and the collection is growing with the possible legacy of Gábor Csajka Cyprián. In the course of professional contacts and information, we are also collecting – and waiting for – literary legacies related to the region and Pest county, in line with our collection circle.
