Archaeological collection
The archaeological material collected since the founding of the institutional system grew from the initial rescue excavations and smaller planned excavations, and after the turn of the millennium, in addition to the revival of the economic life of the region, thanks to the amendment of the heritage protection law, a significant part of the collection consists of objects unearthed during various large-scale excavations. Stone, Bronze and Iron Age tools, pottery fragments, and finds related to everyday life help us imagine the everyday life of the former communities. These relics clearly illustrate technological development and adaptation to the natural environment.
In addition to the finds from settlements, villages and cities, the collection also includes grave finds, jewellery and ritual objects, which provide an idea of how people thought about life, death and the afterlife. These finds are particularly valuable, as they provide a rare glimpse into the spiritual world of the former communities.
The archaeological material of the Fereczy Museum Center is not only significant from a scientific point of view, but also has an outstanding educational and cultural role. The collection contributes to strengthening local identity and helps visitors better understand the connection between the past and the present. The presented finds encourage us to view our cultural heritage as a value and to responsibly preserve it for the future.
The material of the collection is constantly being processed by the museum staff and external researchers. From the wide-ranging collection, we would like to highlight some periods that are richer in finds.
