„HERE I AM!”
A Selection from the Collection of László Gerő and the FMC
The ArtMill will now function as an arena for a lively discourse. A major addition to the Museum’s holdings, László Gerő’s donation brings into relief the Ferenczy Museum Centre’s initiative and its evolving collecting strategy. The works added to the collection—Tibor Hajas’s Makó portfolio, as well as works on paper and photographs by the Vienna Actionists—provide an opportunity to present art forms rich in interpersonal experiences and connections within a wider thematic selection in the ArtMill, as well as to launch a series of exhibitions. The exhibition seeks to expose diverse artistic attitudes that run parallel or intersect, despite what are often large geographical distances, and examines the possibilities of expanding the collection with radical, photo- or documentation-based works that once operated on the periphery of the institutional system.
Günter Brus, Hermann Nitsch, Rudolf Schwarzkogler, Marina Abramović, Orshi Drozdik, Katalin Ladik, Zsuzsi Ujj, Marcel Dzama, AES+F, Mara Mattuschka, Chris Haring, Selma Selman, Szilvia Bolla and Gideon Horváth from the Gerő Collection are joined by their natural associates from the FMC’s holdings, such artists of the Vajda Lajos Studio as ef Zámbó, fe Lugossy and Steve Balogh, among others. However, rather than having a historical interest, this display seeks to establish a viable relationship between the performative works and contemporary art, as well as to engage the viewer in a dialogue. It raises questions of continued relevance, such as: What can art today say about the world? Where is the line between art and life? Providing insights into the international landscape and its local equivalent, alongside current trends, this selection could initiate in Szentendre a resurgence in the already reawakening performance and action art scene, as well as a new wave of alternative music genres.
Children under 18 are not allowed into the exhibition.
