The history of art is propelled by the work of exceptional artists, but more often than not, the opportunity to be pioneers has been given to men only. The Phantom Thread series comprises of concise exhibitions that offer insights into the lives of the wives of such eminent painters whose works can be found in the collection of the Ferenczy Museum Centre.

We now present Lola Gálffy (1902–1980), whose person and work still await discovery. The evidence we have of her work consists of a few recollections, some documents related to exhibitions and a few photographs. Herself a student of Réti, she taught artists for decades, and spent the summers in Szentendre’s Artist Colony, working alongside her husband, Andor Kántor. Lola, who remained childless, found her calling in teaching, approaching education, as well as painting, with a gentle consistency. We are yet to trace her artistic heritage.
