Ferenczy Museum | Glass for Six

Glass for Six, an exhibition at Szentendre’s Ferenczy Museum that opens in 2022, is a follow-up to the 2012 show, Textile for Six. The featured artists – , Péter Borkovics, Bernadett Hegyvári, Kyra László, Mihály Melcher, Balázs Sipos, Ágnes Smetana– belong to the middle generation of contemporary Hungarian glass artists, whose international reputation is considerable. Their works bear witness to the results of the shifts that have taken place in glass art in the past few decades, thanks to which the objects of use have given way to autonomous images and objects whose thought often has philosophical depth.
The free choice of techniques and themes was part of the exhibition’s concept. When spontaneity is the organizing principle of the display, it is worth looking for points of contact and similarities between the preparations and exhibited works of the artists. The title itself brings in mind an invitation for a dinner where different individuals meet and decide how to spend the evening together. Their communication is facilitated by their use and knowledge of the same material.
