Benedek Regős – Reproductio

The exhibition designed for the space of the PhotoLab will showcase Benedek Regős’s earlier works as well as pieces created exclusively for this show. In several of his projects, Regős explores photography as a means of reproduction. At this Szentendre exhibition – embedded in the context of local artistic heritage and the rich collection of the Ferenczy Museum – the artist further unfolds and expands on the thematic of his 2018 solo exhibition White Balance. He explores from additional aspects the problematic of the unique art object and its photographically reproducible and distributable copy. By doing so, he also highlights the contradictions inherent in photographic reproduction, as well as the role of the “impersonal” accuracy expected from the technically rendered image and the underlying – but all the more important – creative processes. In his work, he addresses the role that photography plays in our knowledge of art history, the various stages of the reproduction process, and the physical appearances of the “finished” reproduction.
